for a busy intersection it seems to flow pretty well...

if that was in QLD main roads would have put in a round- about and stuffed the whole thing.

Heh. Round-abouts. I grew up an learnt to drive in Lismore. Bloody round-about leader in the world.

I remember my first lesson 6 yrs ago and my driving instructor took me through that mammoth Ballina rd/Whyralla rd round-about. I thought I was going to die...

In all honesty though, the first couple of years i lived up here I was like "Bloody QLD drivers". Now whenever I go home to visit the folks, it's "Bloody NSW drivers". I guess you just get used to it.

Roundabouts make things easier, just idiots dont know how to drive in them. Like not indicating for a start. Lisa has finally learnt this after a years of what the f... are you doing? He gave me the finger, no wonder, read the road code.... 8O
Carrara is a prime example, when heading westbound.
Right lane=nerang, left lane=left or straight. How many times in the morning do you get a spastic who is running late & uses the left lane & goes right for nerang. I have seen 2 good accidents. I wish the cops will sit there one day, they would make thousands, & maybe wake a couple of (Alert admin)s uo.

I've been to vietnam. So much for pedestrian crossings. It's also amazing what they manage to fit on the back of their bikes..fidges, massive ice blocks, the family...

Title: Round abouts
Post by: Savage_roo on May 06, 2006, 07:41:45 AM
The reason why we have so many Rounder abouts in QLD
Is because round abouts are cheeper than trafic lights to install
So where does all the revenue go from those millions  in fines
It makes u think

So grab a few friends and u can go round and round and round
Well y not you payed for it lmao

Don't know how many roundabouts lismore more has but try noosa shire they have nearly 150 roundabouts just in this shire alone. Noosa I think stands for the land of many roundabouts.

Round abouts are good, quicker imo, but (Alert admin)s just dont get the concept of staying in there lane, they think they can exit and go where ever they want.

If I remember right,  Brad & Steve, is it your believe that if you are driving straight ahead at the roundabout that you do not have to indicate :?:

ok stupid kiwi.

the rules are
if going straight through from either lane you only indicate left as you are exiting, not like all the wankers up here who indicate right because they are going straight.

you can TURN RIGHT "[b:2c01060da1]ONLY IF[/b:2c01060da1]" you are in the inside lane
you can TURN LEFT "[b:2c01060da1]ONLY IF[/b:2c01060da1]" you are in the outside lane
You can go straight from either lane (most roundabouts).

and dont worry kiwi i know your one of the idiots who puts there right hand blinker on when going straight.

That is pretty spot unless arrows show otherwise.

Geez! Don't get me started.
I thought what Frenchy was saying was correct - you DO indicate when going straight, but what I think Frenchy meant was you indicate when you exit i.e. indicate LEFT blinker (no not the right blinker), AFTER you've passed the left turn as you proceed straight ahead.
This is because the poor sucker going straight ahead the other way is waiting to see if you proceed straight ahead, and he can go, or if you keep coming around to your right, and he can't go.  This is particularly important at the busier roundabouts.
But I agree: they're nasty and ineffecient, the majority doesn't know how to use them, and the only reason authorities create them is they're a much cheaper alternative to traffic lights.

Really :?:  u idiot Steve.
U & Brad used to tell me off for indicating when exiting a roundabout, as ya reckon ya didn't have to.  :?  Did u read up all of a sudden
I know the old indicate left as your exiting, it is very rare to see this. GTR knows where I am coming from.

The problem is QLD are bloody useless at building roads, that not all/ well not many of the rounabouts are clear, as in do the good old n-s, e-w; some have 5 or more entrances/exists....
So I indicate right if passing an exit/entrance, even if I am originally going straight well sort of straight, as in where I originally entered from, [b:c59d6592a0]but[/b:c59d6592a0] its a case of the poor construction of roundabouts & busy nature/ hussle on the roads means alot of the times people don't know where u came from {as you my of seen Steve, if I am in the left lane & continueing around the roundabout, I sometimes indicate right. I am sick of people pulling out in front of me, as they think I am in left lane so I must be exiting} then I always indicate left just before the exit that I am taking, as with some multi lanes & some roundabouts, the left lane is still going around the roundabout, not straight is it in alot of cases ah, think about, how many roundabouts here are square as in going straight :?: see never assume, that is the problem here & with the planners, no fu..... idea.

Justin Justin
I have never said anything bout you indicating when leaving a roundabout only for using a right hand blinker when your going straight
Yes the left hand lane usually goes right round a roundabout but this doesnt mean you can turn right from the left hand lane
If you indicate right even if your going straight then you confuse the person coming straight through the other way cos he has no idea where your going but then again jusin when do u know anyway lol
Its quite easy to understand if you have a basic understanding of left straight and right
Obviously if your turning in that direction(not just going round the corner of the roundabout) then indicate it and indicate left when u want to leave the roundabout
But yes the high majority of QLD have no idea on what to do and justin is right on the money talking about the roundabout near Carrara markets if i even wanted to crash my car i could just drive around here for alittle while its bound to happen

Brad

you use to always put you right blinker on when you were going straight.
thats what i use to stress bout.

Always :?: lol The 2 at Neilsons Rd I do, if I am in the left lane then yes. I indicate right{its only a quick 2 flash on the indicater, not a long hold down either} before the exit/entrance on the left. Then I indicate left{indicator locked down} before the exit for the one I take.
Whats the problem? to us we are going straight, but it isnt straight is it now. To the guy in the left entrance, they have no idea whats going on,{using neilsons roundabout at motorway merge, heading east} and the people who are our supposed straight, see me indicate left before I get near their entrance, my exit.
Silly me for being courteous, remember my first point. These roundabouts arent square. I have never had anyone give me the finger or anything, so can't be a problem for the drivers ah.  1/3 of the coasters are kiwis anyway, they know whats going on  No wonder they have problems in hicksville NSW :P

As I typed, QLD roads have no idea & there laws are set up for square roundabouts which don't exist. So I am going right when going straight on some roundabouts. I indicate both ways      never creates confusion except for you 2 sitting with me because you see it black & white. But its not. As a coppa said to me, if it helps the flow of traffic he won't pull me over. Then again, who is silly enough to listen to them

Oh well, me braking the law again
I noticed the Qld Drivers book is 219 pages long, 3 pages devoted to roundabouts   & what is says is less than what I wrote here. Cool I am going to change to the smart state way of driving now  Throw the sheep shaggers manual out
