Title: best way to attach backgrounds
Post by: cvanwyk on May 23, 2006, 12:49:49 PM
Hi, now i dunno if i am the only one who has problems doing this but on several occasions i have bought some nice looking plastic sheet type backgrounds for my aquariums. the problem arises when i try to attach them to the glass. i have used vasaline but that is way to messy, i have used windex but that eventually dries up an peels and i have tried hair spray too but that just eventually gets lots of bubbles in it.

Can anyone tell me of a good way to attach backgrounds to the glass without getting bubbles between the film and the glass?

thanks

chris

Its not as easy as it looks, i use a can of spray cooking oil put a light film over the glass and background, and then lay the plastic down, and use a window cleaner thingymajig to get the bubbles out.

as grum said you can use cooking oil or even baby oil and use a squeegy to push all the air bubbles out starting from the centre and working your way to the outside, that the easiest way i have found, or just use double sided tape but make sure your glass is clean so it sticks

Hi,

We use silicone back in Malaysia. Just all around the edge on the tank and stick the background on.

Cheers
