Post by: evojb on May 27, 2006, 02:56:20 PM
Hi i'm about to look after some large barra, they are currently eating frozen prawns, but looking to go to live goldies.
how much should they eat.
should they have something like high protein pellets each day.

what do you guys feed.

by "large Barra", exactly how big do you mean? I'm not a fan of a barra as an aquarium species personally because no matter how big a tank you have they will always outgrow it!!

If the fish has been taught to eat dead food, they will accept most things. but if you start feeding it only live food for an extended period of time it will be hard to get it to go back to the dead stuff.  I would keep up with the prawns and maybe throw in some live mullet as a treat. do you own a cast net? go catch a few big mullet and watch him go to work!!

barra in a 2 foot tank is not sustainable. A barra will grow to 2 feet long in 6 months or so. what are you going to do with it then? They won't survive in the wild down here, it's too cold.
