Title: collected algea
Post by: ashhhh on June 27, 2005, 12:01:00 PM
is there any danger in collecting and feeding that
ight hairy dark green algea that grows on river rocks in freshwater streams to my catfish?, obviously I would check for snails to prevent a snail explosion but besides that has any one else used it and/or had any dramas with using it? I know for a fact that the water is as fresh as can be and not contaminated as its allways flowing, and high up in the hinterland<

I saw similar yesterday when down the creek playing catch lil fish with my daughter and the same thoughts ran through my mind, the potential disease factor did run through my mind, then I thought why bother when veggies and such are so cheap anyway.<

if you really really want them, you could always give them a good dip in a chlorine solution.<

Dont dip them in chlorine..won't do algae much good at all.

I collect mossy rocks and stones all the time from our local creek.
Use them mainly to feed baby whiptails but all our fish enjoy a pick around on them.
As you said as long as the creek is a good clean flowing one it makes for a good natural supplement to their diet

JUST GET A BIG CONTAINER FILL IT WITH WATER AND PUT SOME SHEETS OF GLASS IN THERE...EVERY DAY ADD ANOTHER SHHET OF GLASS AND THEN YOU TAKE ONE OUT EVERY DAY WHEN IT IS COVERED WITH ALGAE. BY STAGGERING THEM WHEN YOU PUT THEM IN YOU WILL HAVE A CONSTANT SUPPLY
