Title: Sunshine Coast LFS
Post by: ndoboi on June 05, 2006, 06:30:43 PM
Hi all,
Im taking a trip up to Mooloolaba on the weekend for some diving on the ex-HMAS Brisbane and would hate to miss the opportunity to drop in and check out the LFS scene.

Can anyone recommend any places that are to good to miss? Mostly interested in cichlids and catfish (and any bird places too, if you know of any!!).

Cheers
Steve

There are 2 good ones I have seen

Just up the road from underwater world is Mooloolabah avery and aquarium shop. Has a fairly good range of cichlids and all the bread and butter fish. Has stacks of bird. Well worth a look for just the birds.

The other is the Pet Cave up in maroochydore (kingsford smith drive i think). Good range of products and a fairly good range of common cichlids and tropicals. Have some saltwater aswell.

If you can check out underwater world too if you can. its awesome but none for sale.

Mooloolaba Aquarium & Aviary,,,,,100 Brisbane Rd.  Can't miss that one on your way into Mooloolaba.

Fish Cave.    87 Aerodrome Rd.  Maroochydore.

There are a dozen or so others if you have the weekend blown out, so check out the yellow pages.

HMAS Brisbane will be awesome! I hear the local marine life has already established itself all around the vessel.

Underwater World is worth a look, it has just about all aquatic biotopes covered in a huge range of tanks and not just marine - Aussie natives, Lake Malawi, Amazon etc etc.  However be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours there if you do find time, plus I'd try get my hands on a discount voucher (see one of the tourist info centres) and get in cheap.

cheers

Thanks all - looks like the diving will be finished around 1230, so there should be plenty of time to check out all the suggestions!

Brad, have you done the hmas brisbane dive? Hope the weather holds out for us!

Cheers

No haven't dived the HMAS Brisbane as yet (but will get there one day). Watching it get sunk 18mths ago is as close as I've been.
Out of interest, do you know if a Wreck Divers ticket is required at the site? Seeing as anyone with as little as a licence from the back of a Weeties packet can dive anything these days, I'd imagine they don't enforce the Only For Wreck Divers rule.
(I have an Advanced Open Water licence from PADI by the way)

Have fun with it - try get some pics for the forum!  :D

Thanks Brad - I'll try and get some pics. Check out www.scubaworld.com.au , they have all the details regarding penetration of the wreck, etc. It's based on experience.
