nice picks ashhh
Yea nice pics mate, I thought you where getting outa the hobby mate? or just decided to cut back to display tanks?
your tank looks sweeeeeeeeeet
cheers.
yeah grum just cutting back to a couple of tanks now.
Oh and I only change 25% of the water in the display tank every 3-4 weeks and just top up evaporated water to keep it full. I figure the less frequent water changes - the more stable the environment, heck the Acei and johanni breed non stop in there.
good photos, how do you take them so clear, mine always turn out blurry because the fish are moving, i guess i need to play with the shutter speed, i'm not fully confident with the functions of the digital camera.
the camera I have has an image stabilization mode, and I just set it to the 'sports' setting which has a faster shutter speed. Still got plenty of settings to play with yet, and its waterproof too, so next lot of pics will be from inside the tank itself. 8)
Awesome selection! The Fronny, the Acei, E.Yellow and Blue, the catfish, all look fanatstic.
What size tank is that? And what filtration to get a nice happy looking selection like that?
I particularly liked that male Acei (Tanzania?). I have a small male in mine so now look forward to when he gets some size into him.
mate i love that fronty
i just know em as a Pseudotropheus "Acei" (Msuli) or yeah yellow tail acei, the tank is 4ftlong x 2ft deep x 18inch wide, and is filtered by a Sacem Marathon 2000 (1800Lph).3 trays of noodles, 2 of foam, with a bag of purigen thrown in for good measure.
total tankmates
2 gold plecs 5cm
2 gibbys 4-5cm
1 common plec 15cm
1 snowking 6cm
3 acei 9-10cm
3 johanni 5-7cm
6 clowns 5-9cm
4 yoyos 5-6cm
4 elect yellows 4-6cm
1 elect blue 8cm
1 fronty 10cm
3 yellowtail acei 8-9cm
2 gold comps 5-6cm
4 blue dolphins 4-5cm
2 red empress 5cm
2 humpheads 4-6cm
3 cuckoos 7-8cm
8O - from the pic it doesnt look like that many in there but lets just say feeding time is fun to watch...
they were all purchased as fry so they would all get along together as they grew, and most of them have been in the tank for allmost a year or so.
Growthrates are pretty slow mostly due to the higher than usual but not excessively high nitrate levels but other than that they are all happy healthy fish.As they do get bigger I'll cull off the not so pretty ones to allow the nicer ones to grow, and sorce the males and flick the females.Johanni and acei allready breeding
Hi Ash,
I've got a Marathon 2000 too, on my 4'x18"x18". Awesome filter, I use a divider in mine as with the older Sacem models, where the intake water is diverted down one side of the canister, like so . . .
[img:f87a05af6d]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/GTR73/Sacem2000modptII_2.jpg[/img:f87a05af6d]
Mine's half full of ceramic noodles for biological and the rest is foam and wool. I use a layer of bio-balls top and bottom of canister just to keep water flow free at inlet/outlet.
Massive capacity these things, 10L sized barrel for your media.
Looking out your Acei, I don't mean to be a wise-ass, but you may want to verify the locational strain of the ones you have. I have both Msuli Points and Tanzania and yours is spot-on a Tanzania, but by all means check with others.
The Msuli Point have a more blue/purple body with an all yellow tail fin and tip of dorsal, while the Tanzania is almost a gun-metal grey/black body with a bright yellow flash thru centre of the tail, bright yellow tip of dorsal and white edging across the length of the dorsal.
Personally I find the Tanzania the cooler looking fish. It's darker colouration and bright yellow flashes make it look almost marine.
Hey Ash looking great mate
That Acei is a Tanzania not msuli as GTR has pointed out
Though everything looks great in there going really well
I cant wait for the underwater Photos

i think they are all tanzanias as msulis also have yellow arms(side fins, i dont' know what they're called) and don't have the black bottom edge on the tail. the one in the second pic is very blue in the face probably due to the flash from the camera (they do get blue around the jaw but i've never seen it that bright).
yeah i think Grum has to adjust the colour settings on his monitor
yer my bad they are tanzania
good idea with the cannister, If I find a second hand/broken one that I can pinch the canister from I'll give it a go, as it will be a little hard for me to do without a backup filter to run the tank whilst the silicone cured......
My bad, looked purple to me. this is why i dont sell fish...
