L18 is the "Gold Nugget" pleco.    I have never seen one for sale in Queensland, but doubtless there are some somewhere.

I have seen them in New Zealand aquarium shops for NZ$35, but seeing as they are not on the Australian import list, any that do come up for sale will certainly be in excess of $300..

As far as Kuhlis go they luke to burrow in the sand or gravel so you don't want a substate like beach sand that packs too tight.

Kuhlis will love being in with all the others, they like same conditions as Clowns.  Just give them somewhere to hide away from the others - like under a ship in the gravel.
Ours just bred and now we have about 5(can't count them as they are so fast) of the smallest Kuhlis you've ever seen!!

Gold nuggets have round yellow spots, you might be confusing it with the gold spot pleco which is cheaper.

I have recently seen a couple 7cm L018 for $500ea

Nick,

The reason they are so expensive is that aside from L168 . . .( & poss L052),Zonancistrus pulcher. Known overseas as the Butterfly Pleco, often wrongly called a "Clown Pleco" here in Aus, there are no Plecos that can be imorted into Australia legally.

There are a few that are bred in guite good numbers here in Australia, including all the Bristle noses, that are usually available. But even these can be up to $100 or more.

Since L168's were made legal last September they seem to have dropped out of favour.  When they were "No No's" every one wanted them. Now they are legal and available for $30 to $50, no ones seems interested any more.

Still a nice 'small' pleco and well worth having.

Alan.
