Title: Aqua Pro CF-1000 - cracked outlet
Post by: GTR73 on July 03, 2006, 09:49:09 AM
Managed to crack the outlet on this canister over the weekend, right where the tap connects to it, so now there's a leak. Anyone know of a possible solution to fix this? I suspect this has happened to a few people given how popular these canisters are.
I was thinking of removing the tap altogether, hack-sawing off the cracked section of the outlet, and attaching the hose to the remaining section using a hose clamp.
But is there an easier fix?

if its just a crack, then use some waterproof sealer, that should fix it, it will save time, and is much better ten breaking more of it, i think just the sealer should stop the leaks no worries

If you use a soldering iron & similar plastic you can gently plastic weld it! Make sure the iron is clean & no solder is on the tip, a piece of wet sponge when the tip is hot will do the trick.

Title: broken end

yeah i did the same to my marathon   (dammn the person who designed that brand of filter) all i did was to heat the end of hose and puch over the remaining pipe, providing there is enought o seal properly it should be ok. That nut system which screws up to lock the pipe on is more for a quick release than actual water sealing. if there isnt enough pipe im dont know what youd do.   peter

Hmmm, given me some good ideas.
What I now might do is remove the tap and tap-nut altogether, add a short piece of hose onto the cracked outlet pipe (using heat if required) and use Selleys Aquarium sealant to seal it all up. At least that way the outlet pipe is sealed and I can still attach a tap and the outlet hose using a simple hose clamp, and allowing me to still shut off the flow for cleaning.

Worthwhile posting this up as I think other people have been in the same predicament.
Thanks for the ideas everyone.  :D
