Title: Fish for a display tank
Post by: bj on July 06, 2006, 01:18:06 PM
Hi all,

I am going to set up a 4ft community display tank with some carnivorous fish to put a show on in the bar area, something entertaining to watch when live food is dropped in. Just wondering what fish everyone would recommend for this and prices if its going to be expensive. I would prefer fish that grow to a minimum of 8-10 inches. I would love to have a saratoga or a mangrove jack but once these fish get bigger they will need the tank for themselves.

I already have a big tank with fairly placid attractive fish, now just want some angry suckers  .

Thanks for any advice.

How big is your bugdet?

Do you plan to feed live food all the time?

You potenially could have anything from African's to American's or even natives. Remember large fish make lots of waste, stay ontop of waterchanges and remove any uneaten food/dead feeders.

Don't underestimate Australian bass and archerfish.

Thanks everyone for the replys.

I have started stocking the tank at the moment. Have a mangrove jack, black bream and a large oscar in it at the moment. In a few weeks will be adding a couple of archers and a nice saratoga jardini once the trickle filters bio gets fully up to speed.

I love it. Its starting to look awesome. Just need to wait for a log to fully soak, throw in some more gravel and add a few more plants and it will be a great looking 6x2x2.5.

It was quite fun getting this tank up a small staircase and inside. Hope I wont be doing anything like that for a fair while   . Will post some pics once everything is running sweet.

Happy fishkeeping.
