hey, just wondering if a 2foot by 1foot by 1 foot tank will be big enough to house 1 holding electric yellow female till she releases, and if there are only 10 or so fry, will it be big enough for the growout tank, if now, im open for suggestions on what size to use aswell as how to go about it,
thnx in advance,
Nick
no mate i think you will need a 3ft or bigger.
Thats what I'm currently using. Ive got two generations of fry and a holding female in there now. About 45 fry. I will move them when they reach @3-4 cms though. I always strip my girls then put the fry in a 1ft tank for a few weeks before putting them into the 2ft tank. Thats the way Ive always done it and it seems to work for me. :D
so ill need something as big as a 3 foot, i only have a 3foot as my main tank, lol, im planning on having 4 or 5 electric yellows, some bn, and some clown loaches and maybe a little something else......
but i had no idea i would need as big as a 3foot for a growout tank, but i spose there are a fair few of them to grow...
Nick with good filtration it should be fine with water changes fish tend to grow on water condition not volume.
oh thnx gasnitro....ill definately have to think about it all, its is only to grow them up and sell them, i just dont have the money to get a stand, lighting and good filter for the 3footer etc, but i might get a job soon, and hopefuly it will all work out....
from what i've heard, if you can line your fish up and they are longer then the length of your tank, theres too many, as there isnt enough oxygen in the water, howver, if you have good filtration and airpumps in their, this also extends how many fish you can have in the one tank!
oh ok, well its only to grow out yellows, and there isnt gonna be to many in there first lot.....well thats wat i read on a site, it said that the younger they are, the less young they will have.....
No i reckon the 2fter should be fine to put the holding female in till she drops & to get the bubs to afew weeks before you'll have to upgrade.
Pete.
as long as you keep up with the water quality and eough filtration no probs
yeah thnx guys, i dont know n e more, so much stuff to think about, like heaters and pumps, forgot how much money and time is needed for starting a new tank
