i would suggest a saratoga of some sort, but you really need a minimum of 4x2x2 i'd say.

nick, i'm not trying to lecture you but agian, google has all the answers for you.  Do you really want to waist efc's time for him to explain "what the fish is like" when you can do a little research yourself, you have the fishes name that's all you need.

alot of what your asking has been covered before in previous posts, so a search of the forum will help too.  You post A LOT when it's really not needed, the post number and title under your name is not important.  think quality not quantity.

it's best to use google then if you can't find a speific answer ask on the forum.

hey mate, so far the target fish is around 7cm but I have heard they get too 20cm up north. They are aggressive like jacks and Oscars and the like. However they look sweet and can be kept in both salt and fresh water. At them moment my mate has one in his African display tank.
As far as I know they have not been bred in a tank and not a lot is published on these guys.

Another nice fish is the coal grunter!

A saratoga would be an ok choice but in the long run a 4 ft is gunna be too small. Saratoga are constantly swimming and you'll soon get tired of watching your fish swim 3 body lengths then turn around. I'd go for something with a little more personality like a trimac or devil. They'll live happily in a 4x2 and have attitude to burn.

I have a red devil, he is more a pet than a fish. The kids pat him!!! he follows you around when you walk around the room & makes a great conversation piece!!

if you want a fish with attitude, big teeth, nice colours and grows to a nice size, I would get a Red Terror, (amphilophis festae) I think is the latin name, correct me if I'm wrong someone
But yeah, nice colours on these guys and a great fish IMO :D
do a google image search and youll see what I mean

try 'amphilopus festae' or 'cichlasoma festae'.....

heres a nice pic of one

ps they are usually quite easy to source as juvies, and there colouring is allways very nice as adults (not as juvies) but they are most colourful when they are spawning, which I would say is the case with the fish pictured above

Hmm they are nice fish Ash, if you can find a female, even better. As in more colour...if you buy a few juvies, grow them up a bit & keep the nicest.

Do a search on south american or central american cichlids, see what you come up with. Jaguars are nice too.

Benji its alright mate, this is a forum & the personal information given by someone with experience can be better than google sometimes. Remember some of the stuff on the net could of been written by anybody.

Frenchy :D

I know its already been mentioned but a red devil!!!

They are a fish with personality... real personality.

We had one here called nemo and it was a bit of a psycho.. stick your hand in there and it would bite you, but he would follow you around.. great value and they grow nicely. this one was almost 20cm in just a 2ftlx2fthx1fw
