Title: worm!!!!!!
Post by: Luke39 on July 11, 2006, 10:22:42 PM
today i found a red worm about 4cm long hiding in some gravel. This tank was only setup 2 months ago, with new gravel, filters etc. Also the frontosa that are in it were in a bare tank for 2 months before that.

So im puzzled as to how this worm got in there. By the way i got rid of the worm. Should i expect more to show up? Do they pose a threat to my fish? Is there a treatment for them? And does anybody know what this red worm is called?

Thanks,

Luke 8)

do you feed them bloodworm? Cause i heard that sometimes you can get red worms from in the bottom of your tank from the worms.

if that helps.

cheers

if you feed your fronties live blood worms and not all get eaten they will live in your gravel and multiply . there is plenty of tablets that will get rid of em ,your lfs should have em in stock

By the sounds of it, it was a live bloodworm they are naturaly occuring on the coast as they the larvae of a mosquito type insect that doesn't bite humans easiest way to findout if they are in your area is to place a bucket outside and after it is green place a lettuce leaf in it. The bloodworm will feed on the leaf all you have to do is look at the leaf and it will be full of the little red worms. Sounds like this was a lucky one that made it to safety after hatching.
