Title: Any other sadists out there?
Post by: davo0903 on July 14, 2006, 10:07:47 PM
I aquired a couple of salmon tail cats the other day, about 3-4" long. There in a tank all on their own at the moment. Now, I have two african tanks set-up, and they are the main attraction, I'll admit, but the africans get fed a strict diet of pellets with the occasional frozen brine shrimp. No live food.

Today, I ventured into the realm of feeder fish for my salmon tails.... :D

WHAT FUN!!! I hadn't put fish into a tank with the aim for them to be eaten, until now. It was so interesting watching the cats take off after these little buggers, really showing off their predatory nature. I don't know about fun for all the family, but its certainly interesting to watch. Of course, after catching one or two, they'd had enough. So the other twenty or so little tikes live for another day, until the cats get the munchies tomorrow! Am I the only one who gets a kick out of seeing the food chain in action?

I used to keep a male Dovii, in a 6fter downstairs and when we were getting the bathroom renovated we had an old english guy doing it for us, he was having smoko one morning and he saw me feeeding it, ever other morning he was there, he would grab his little eski come and sit down in front of the tank and ask in his funny little accent to "" Feed im them live fishies"""" this was better than coronation street for him

Hardly :?:  :?:  :?: Some don't even touch the water.

I must admit Brad when you throw in hybrid, deformed... cichlids & they manage to survive the first 30 seconds & hide. Pooh "the Jack" will circle the hidey hole for a little while, trying to think how he can get lunch. The amazing thing is, its like he will think out a scenario & it works.  Pooh will charge at the hole, cichlid shoots out the other side, but to late Pooh is already there, chomp :!:  8)
I have seen no other fish hunt like that before. Smarter than the cichla, salmontails, barra.....

well he cant be too smart. He did eat a dead worm with a big steel hook up its guts. and when he was fighting he swam to the surface instead of a snag.

The worm was well presented thank you very much, such precision on the cast too might I add.    Seriously but; If I was a jack & had just bitten on something yummy, then from out the sky, into the water came a large flying dog covered in pooh: I know I'd be heading in the opposite direction

 Maybe he knew he was going to a better place.
