Title: Has my fronnie got bloat?
Post by: Aries on July 16, 2006, 08:01:06 PM
Hi
Looking for some advise on my female frontosa. Since last night she has had trouble holding position in the tank and seems to float head down tail up in the water or list badly to one side. Her stomach does look a little swolen tho not alarmingly so and she is not breathing heavily nor does she seem to be in any real discomfort. I keep mainly americans so have zero experience with bloated fish (if that's the problem?) Is ther anything i can do anything to save her? Is it directly related to diet or are there other factors?
Any advise would be great

Thanks
Andy

my moba did this, it can be diet related more likely could be stress
some more info would be handy, tank size, tank mates, food?

good float remedy for fronts...
do a 50% water change
add 1 cup epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) per each 350 litres
dont feed for three days and keep lights off,

Thanks for the quick reply mate. The tanks a 4x18x20 and houses2 frontosa @ 20cm and 2 @ 10cm. I've had trouble settling on a staple diet for them but they eat tetra colour bits, hbh super cichlid sinkers and occasionally flakes. I'll give the epsom salts thing a crack, back the lights off and see how it goes

Cheers

Andy

Heres a link to some good information.

Could be a swim bladder problem too. Try treating for bloat first & hopefully its that & it works.
