It has been done, I can vaugley remember reading an article in T.F.H magazine some time ago. The spawn took place in an 8x3x2 tank with a massive filtration system which housed six or so 30 cm plus mature fish.
The fish were actually fed on white pilchards for 2 weeks the extra protein was thought to bring the females into breeding condition. I cant remember what the water parameters were but the spawn took place of a night & the 1000 or so fry grew very quickly.
I'll try & dig up some exact info for you.

If you go into loaches on line they have all the information you are looking for. Including the differences in the breed and where they come from, also quite a few stories from people who have bred them.

They are mature at about 17cm, females have a claw shape to there tail and are deep bodied (like most fish).

Cheers Danae

Mark,

a pair mean 2,
a trio mean 3,

roo never mentioned that he has a breeding pair.
