Andrew
i picked up 2 pairs of dwarf compressiceps (mbita). I only need a few kigoma to complete the Alto collection.
Were there any large venustus females up for auction? I left for a while to watch the lions and i think i missed most of the good stuff lol
There was a large variety of fish at the auction and it was good to see that there is such a large variety of fish being kept in the greater Brisbane area.
For those that missed the fish being auctioned due to chatting that is a decision by the individual and should not be used to reflect the success of the auction, it is a wide known fact that women can concentrate on more than one thing at a time.lol
It is good to see that the prices are fair to both the buyers and sellers. For the newer buyers I think it is great that the species and genus name are written on the bag (for easy identification later).
It is wonderful that the Clubs provide the canteen at each auction as it would be difficult to have to leave the auction in search of your own dinner (and drinks) and miss the fish being auctioned. . . at least this way you can still hear what is being auctioned and you don't have to remove yourself from the hall and lose your car park.
Sonya
Yeah i agree the night seemed to go pretty well
It was my first Brisbane Auction and there was a few people there
Was good to meet a few people as well
A big think you to the people who helped keeping the night running
Brad
i loved it, i got a livingstonei male 15cm and a saulosi female 8cm for $25 so im happy.
Yeah wasn't too bad if this guy named phil behind me would just stop nattering :D . But I should be thankful I guess cause I got the J ornatus cause he was talking so much. Oh and did everyine know he got crabs. :D
its alright sonya..... the hotdoge wern't that bad....
I have been to the.
ACT auction and it was armature, but friendly.
Sydney auction are huge, good lots, but costs at least 50% for your fish and costs $5 bucks just to get in the door and they have bad hotdogs too. The auction actually stops if the crowd is too loud, something Brisbane may want to take on board.
So all up Brisbane has a good size auction didn't drag out all night, but lacked good auctioneers, as a buyer you need to know size of the fish, and if it is not common, its nature. Eg argo or easy going, some one like Bill Smith, should do it. I would even pay a gold coin donation to get in if he was the full time auctioneer.
Yeah the hotdogs were bad, not as bad as all the [i:8f690d29cd]smoke [/i:8f690d29cd]thoe
Hey Phil :!: Do you have Crabs :?:
Frenchy :D
We bought 9 Clown loaches
1 male B/N
2 female B/N
Not much this time, downsizing. Enjoyed the evening - not the Hot Dogs, even the kids were well behaved this time. Still a good night out (don't get too many these days)
Cheers Danae.
I had a good time, didnt buy anything but caught up with lots of friends.
Sold some fish to downsize before moving to Darwin.
Even Charlie behaved himself!
Cheers
Steve
Yeah. It was a good night.
I picked up some of Andrew's juvie hongi (in the auction)
Picked up some flavus from Ziggy
and got some "microworms"
I dunno which is worse microworms or crabs !!!
Met Grum finally (the jumper was a dead give-away) and some guy called Doug from Gladstone. Also, Turkey Beach, ozarowana....
Only meant to be there for 1.5 hours, but went home setup some drippers for my critters, changed brake lights and was back by 8pm. I must agree that I spent most of the second half of the night talking, and went home with more money then expected.
I felt the auctioneers did a good job, so did the runners and all those Involved.
So possible changes - the venue, bursting at the seams early on and some AC will be good in Summer. Furthermore, a bigger space could allow us to split the rrom a bit so those who wan't to have a chat and can, without irratating others/auctioneers.
Biggest problem - the photo's. I'll be willing to put up my hand to help with this. I feel that a few things could happen
1) Logged into a database when submitted for auction. This can be then wirelessly transmitted in order so the person running the photo's no what's next/comming up
2) Make the number of photo's available smaller. Does anyone have/keep records of what goes through - we could setup an image database based on past auctions
3) Edit the images (if allowed to) to show scientific name, lake/location, max size. We could split this task between 5/10 of us etc.
Anyway, good to meet a few people and will see you at the next one.
Cheers Mitch
I provided my own pictures of the fish I was selling - I think it's better for the punters to see the actual fish, or parents of the actual fish, than some reference material. Greg was happy to use them.
Cheers
Steve
i thought the night was great picked up a couple of bags of demonsoni
I didn't go because my beloved Hawthorn played the Lions at the Gabba. Only get one chance a year to don the ol' Hawks jersey and cheer on the team (and watch them lose :( . . . again  )
That was the first fish auction that I have attended & I will definitely be going to the next one with a better idea of what to expect. Well done to those involved in making it happen. The secret appears to be 'turn up early & sit down the front'
I got myself 2 x rosy belly firemouths(?) .. at least I think that is what the auctioneer called :P they are cool whatever they are :P pic below.

Incidentially, a juvenile male Electric Blue I got for my dad at the auction earlier in the year is turning out to be a brilliant looking fish - has a red anal fin and lots of nice yellow flecks in the tail and rear tip of the dorsal. Only cost $7, but shows you can sometimes pick up great looking fish out of the auction (let's face it, can be a gamble what fish you end up with but sometimes it pays off nicely!)
Well I had a ball. This was my first auction. I came with Roo and his better half Shell :D . I picked up my Lombardi from Nigel. By the way they are great fish and are zooming all over the tank lol. I have never been to an auction in my life and omg I just wanted to bid on everythign even if I didnt ant or need it lol. But I behaved and got myself 4 more Yoyo's for my tank. I just love them lol they are just all over the place chasing eachother and playing with my little clown loaches lol. Thanks for the great night. I will be back  lol. Oh and the hotdogs were not that bad they didn't make a second appearance at all lmao
[quote:483be91a81="Tabbycat"]But I behaved and got myself 4 more Yoyo's for my tank. [/quote:483be91a81]
Out of interest how much were your Yoyo's?
I got them for $10 for 2. To me that was a good price as they are about $8 in the shops :D
hey all
wasnt a bad auction atleast we didnt have to sit through 200 lots of duck weed or copious amounts of convicts
i picked up 8 copidachromis borleyi
thanks to the clubs running these events
even mr "get your hot dogs"
Scotty,
All the auction in bris are run by QFAS which is the governing body of all the aquarium clubs in SE QLD.
At each auction qfas lets one of the clubs run the canteen, just away of helping the clubs make some money......
The GOLD COAST AQUARIUM SOCIETY is the only club to run thier own auctions, which we have two per year, held at the ALBERT WATERS COMMUNITY HALL BROADBEACH. just across the road from pacific fair shopping centre.
our next auction is on the [b:f9ac8d2833]7th october 2006[/b:f9ac8d2833]
doesn't kev sell 10 yoyo's for $20 anymore?
2 ea thats a pretty good prise
