im just curious to know if i were to put say a small colony of electric yellows and another small colony of say another type of mouth brooding malawi cichlids would they cross breed?? not that im wanting to do this just a thought?? im thinkin of having like a half display half breeding set up. any info would be great guys. thanks
I have my electric yellows in with a clony of Salousi and a colony of crimson tides and they are fine, just do your research on which type of fish u are putting them with cause i have found yellows prefer a more placid tankmate to do best IMO :)
Most of the guys on here will have them with different species and all is gr8.

yes i can agree i find it best not to mix same species like peacocks only one type in a tank and so on avoid fish that have very similar coloring and body shape and you should do fine in one tank i had fronnies rostratus kadangas and lithobates and all did fine peter
I have my yellows in with rusties , dolphins pepermint cats and 1 more i carn't spell
and they all get along fine

ive found with my experience is that the fish will usually only breed with its own species (if thats available) in saying that if you somehow had 10 male yellows and no females and there were some females of a similar species then i would expect some cross breeding,.
so in short as long as they are a "colony" of each you should be fine, they prefer there own kind
thanks guys will keep in mind. great help. just got to decide what to keep with my yellows now. maybe somehting blue to mix it up.
ive alwaysed love the combo of frontosas with yellows.
maybe the real nice ones like the ikola lightning or something
