I have a couple here and one of them has eggs. I'm trying to find out what colour the eggs are when fertile as different species seem to have different coloured eggs.
I have googled and yahoo'd all afternoon to no avail :(
This is an older picture of the one with the eggs...

Penny,
The crayfish in the picture you posted is not a western australian marron, but a female cherax quadricarinatus, or "Redclaw" cray.
You can tell by the very pointed shape of the rostrum (point on the end of its head), the rather deep and pronounced post orbital ridges (ridges on its head either side of the rostrum) and the distinct red blotches on its abdominal segments (tail section). And you can tell its a female because of the rather narrow profile of its propodus (hand/claw) in comparison to the width of a male c.quadricarinatus' propodus, also the lack of the bright red soft uncalcified membrane on the outside margin of the claws usually tends to mean a female specimen.
The picture that wayne posted is indeed a cherax tenuimanus or "western australian marron". You can tell by the shortened and curved rostral spine in comparison to the redclaw and the irregular calcified and slightly raised spots on its carapace (middle section) and abdomen.
Hope this helps!
Aaron
Thanks everyone.
The egg she was carrying are orange anyway, so infertile.
lol about the eating, though I'm not sure if I'd eat anything that has spent it's life in a fishtank and chemicals
They're pretty good these ones because you don't have to worry about them harrassing the fish and they add a bit of nice colour. Not to mention the interest for little kids watching them come out and eat their pellets.
Just an update on this.....
When moving house the weekend before last the kids noticed the yellow eggs had black dots (yes these were eye's).
As of Saturday they have started to release from their mother, she still has many yet to release.
Now the next problem is what to do with them all  .
aaron,
Both male and female are identical, though the male is alot younger and only half the size.

Even though they may both look the same, the cray in the pic you posted is deffinately a female redclaw crayfish. Depending on how small your male cray is, he may not have developed his soft red membrane on his claws yet. Alternatively you may have a male of a different species and the babies will be cross breeds.
Post a pic of your male cray and i'll tell you exactly what species it is.
Aaron
They are selling these things at pet city for $15 a pop.
Id be intrested in some tho :)
Aaron,
What you say makes sense about getting the red claw when older. This fella hadn't developed this yet though. If he still had his claws I'd take pic for you lol. His first claw went at same time I noticed she was carrying eggs. I kept them in same tank up until we moved and during this time he had another shedding of shell and grew back the claw. The day of the move we had to take most of water from their tank and while waiing for moving the old girl ripped off his good claw and the bottom nipper of his new claw. Now I have him back living in the community tank with the Jewels and some Mbuna, seperated from her and babies.
One thing I'm jubious about with them being red claw is the temperment. They say the red claws are supposed to be aggressive and you can't put them with fish or they will eat ot at least nip fins etc. Where as the Blue Marron can be kept with fish and don't tend to harrass them. These have been kept in community tanks with a range of fish and older fry with no issues at all.
I suppose in the end it doesn't matter what they are as long as they are compatible with fish, if this is what you want to do with them or that they just look nice in a tank of their own.
Once they all release from their mother (don't know how long this takes) and they are big enough to handle they will be getting put into a 4ft tank to grow out a bit. This should up the survival rate a bit and I'll take it from there with advertising them or whatever. If anyones interested just PM me and I can give more info on what I know from observing them.

I disagree on redclaws being an agressive species, I keep redclaws in community tanks and have bred redclaws in community tanks before without any loss of fish or niped fins. They will defend themselves if being harassed, but thats about it.
You might be thinking of the Cherax Destructor species being the agressive one, they seem to have more of a desire to harm tank mates and destroy anything and everything.
