hi all.<
>i just got a hold of a colony of 8 frontosas.<
>from 8cm-20cm.<
>they havnt been freighted yet. <
>is a 6x2x2 big enough? Wales for the grand slam....then the world cup
for now it is, but when the males get to 30cm and the fem 25cm it will be a bit cramped.<
>start lookin rounf for an 8 footer or cut back on the amount of fish......<

I have 5, 7 bars in a 4x2x2 they are getting pretty big and dont seem to have any problems, 6x2x2 i would think would be huge.<
><
>Just dont keep a
eeding pair of venutus in there, they killed my prize fronnie, a 7 bar, 15cm male.<

Hi i had my colony in a 2000L tank with a high ph, salt, plenty of hiding places, very expensive time consuming diet, .5 micron filter on tap water, and ran a 1 micron filter on the tank, it was ruddy awesome, yeh they
ed. then i sold them to a guy who put them in a 6x2x2 and a year later or more( lost track of time) i have bought babies of him from these same fish, an i dont think he is any where near as pedantic as me, although he does feed em quality food,<
>So going from my experience an what he told me, dont worry to much about the ph, use salt, make sure the temperature never varies too much, keep up with your water changes and use quality food and you shouldnt have any problems even in your six footer, if you got money burning a hole in your pocket make sure you got really good filtration, if you dont have a trickle, try two fluval 404''s. ( i cannot recomend ehiem because i have not used them)
Hi Sam <

>The tank you specified (180Lx60Wx60D) would hold around 171.18 gallons, 142.53 UK Gallons, or 647.93 liters of water. That much water would weight about 1,425.27 pounds or 646.50 kilograms. <
><
>This tank using freshwater can hold 139.500279001 inches of adult fish. If however this tank is a marine setup it will hold 34.8750697501 inches of adult fish. <
><
>The recommended minimum combined gallons per hour of filtration would be 684 GPH.To raise the temperature of the water five to ten degrees (F) over the room temperature you would want to get a heater with an output between 427 to 855 watts. <
><
>The above figures are just a mathematical guide. Your requirements may vary.<
><
>Eg 10 fish at 14inches should fit so 8 should be fine just remove unwanted males and you shouldn''t have a problem.<

Hi Sam <
><
>That tank holds about 650liters of water and going by the Frontosa sites i visit they say a tank that size can hold 10 Frontosa''s at 14 inches so i would say you should be fine, but i would get rid of unwanted males to keep the peice a bit more.<
><
>I also agree about the 2 x Fluval''s 404 if you dont have a sump. I have a 8x2x2 and they keep it perfect.<
><

Hey, just like to add that ehiems would be as good or better than fluvals, i just didnt recommend them cause i only wanted to speak from my own experience<
>Ehiems are supposed to last twenty years an fluvals ten, i am told by users of ehiems that they are awesome, Edited by: Huma Dragonsbane at: 5/6/05 19:38<

>thnks everyone, <

>filtration is no problem<

>sam Wales for the grand slam....then the world cup
Quote:Eg 10 fish at 14inches <
>that woulkd be to much by 0.499720999 of an inch. <
>just joking...<
>I never go by reccomended fish to tank space...it all depends on how the fish get along, filtration & the like.<

Mate I have a tank of similar size and any expert in the world would tell me that I have too many fish in there per ml of water but at the end of the day I have more places for fish to call home than I have fish. give your fish plenty of places to call home and ensure your filtration is excessive if you want to have excessive amounts of fish and you should be right. If you sense trouble, sell or trade the trouble makers, at the end of the day you will be left with your favourite fish anyway. Thats my 2cents worth anyways....goodluck
