you serious? after all the info you've just been given?  have you read it?  i don't think it's very smart to support the practice of painting/dying fish by buying them.

Not only will your fish loose it's colour after a few months, it may die soon after you buy it and you will have waisted your money.  These fish painters are relying on people like you.

if its very uncommon then theres a VERY HIGH (100%) chance that its DYED

oh and in case you dont know we live in AUSTRALIA ( not america )

Hiya's,
My 2 cents worth. Blue(purple) oscars are a natural colour in the wild. Ive seen quite a few here in Aus (injected or real)and had a breeder trying to grown some up to breed(at least 15+). From what I can gather the blue strains in Aus are injected/dyed from someone hoping to make a quick $$$ as they waste away almost everytime... Now my breeders giv'n up and we never got any more in as they kept dying b4 they sold(except to him)...

heres a pretty crappy pic of a natural purple oscar. i very much doubt there would be many (if any) true purples in asutralia

as far as i know ,the blue/ purple oscar is not dyied or painted but are a throw  back from the wild form/strain . as most experenced oscar breeders will know that most /if not all oscars that are breed  will throw bach a certain amount of strains from their ancestary ,weather it be tigers , red tigers (hybrid), or albino forms.

Oscars are an allowable import so there is no real limit on what strains of oscars we can have in the country.

Has anyone else seen these guys to see what they are.

"Blue Oscars" is a loose term for the dyed variety. The best way to tell, is to see what it looks like a few months down the track, if it lives that long.

Frenchy :D

Wilson this didnt have anything to do with allowbale imports

Madtat talked about these fish in America saying they are uncommon there and as you might be aware they arent readily available to import into Australia
Hence the quote from above

I have seen these. They are the same pattern as the white and orange  oscars only where the orange is it is a light blue. If these fish are dyed how can they only get the dye to the stripes?
