Title: 10 cm Electric Yellow kills my 20cm Tanzanian
Post by: TaxDodge on September 11, 2006, 02:18:26 PM
The little fellow choked the Tanzanian.  I didn't see what happened but when I arrived, just after feeding, the yellow was jammed into his throat.  The yellow was removed but unfortunately too late for both.  The yellow survived a few hours.

Until this the Tanzanians seemed peaceful enough (6x2x2 tank).

Maybe they both went for the some pellet of food?

Any one else had trouble with Tanzanians?

Hi,

More correctly known as Buccochromis sp. "Tanzania"

I looked them up in my Ad Konings book, and while it doesn't mention Buccochromis sp. "Tanzania" specifically, it does mention quite a few other members of the Buccochromis family. And they are all predatory piscivores growing to 30cm or so. The odds are your electric yellow may only be the first of many victims to come.

Cheers, Doug

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the feedback.  These guys are supposed to be peaceful and I've never seen them show any signs.  They been living happily with your Dolphins (and offspring) for nearly a year.  If anything the male dolphins tend to dominate them.

I got them from John at the Q Centre shop. (Maimi Waters)

Here is a link for them.

Unfortunately a lot of the predator species do have a go at yellows maybe due to the bright colour. Or natural food source in the wild.
