Title: Tankmates for strigatus
Post by: Ulysses048 on September 18, 2006, 04:41:56 PM
Some months ago I bought a colony of strigatus ... but having nowhere to house them, a friend "rented" me some space in his fish room.
Now they have mouthfuls .... and I am wanting to bring a breeding colony of them home... so what size tank would people recommend and what tankmates (if any) would be suitable.  I understand they can be quite aggressive - and never having kept them before, would appreciate your advice.
Thank you
Regards

Hi Carole,
I do breed strigatus and I would recommend a 4ft minimum (I have 2 m & 7f in my tank and there are new mouthfuls every 2-3 weeks).
the main thing is to have MANY grow out tanks for the fry. I'm sure you will have a spare few with your setup out the back.
If you have more than 9-10 in your colony, then I'd recommend a larger breeding tank.

Thank you for the advice ... that is what I figured.... I am planning on having probably just the one dominant male and half a dozen females in the tank ... and was planning to put them in a 4 footer ... do the males show aggression towards the females when holding? and
On another note, what do you feed yours?
