Title: methylene blue
Post by: Luke39 on September 24, 2006, 07:34:57 PM
I got some methylene blue to help with tumbling eggs, but im unsure of how to use it. I remember reading a thread once were it said to use only half the normal dosage. I attempted to use it by setting up a 2ft tank and tumbling the eggs as per usual. i only used 1 quarter of the recomended dose and the tank went dark blue, i did not repeat. The eggs developed fine, but once they where free swimming they started to die off. I eventually lost a batch of electric yellows and johanni 8O .

What am i doing wrong?
Should i just use it when there eggs and do a 100% water change when there free swimming?

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

When you first milk the eggs treat the water with meth blue and after about a week start waterchanging it out (25% waterchanges should be ok).
If you have good quality water with plenty of filtration then meth blue is not really necessary, so only a small dose should be all you need.

all you need is enough to give it a tint of blue, ie no darker than sky blue.

I wouldn't use it at all. As said above, if your water is fine....

From what I have been told by people who use is that they just squirt where the eggs are & thats it.

Apparently Methylene Blue just shades the water, and fungus cant grow without light.
