Title: Corydoras Question
Post by: Jamez on September 25, 2006, 12:14:27 PM
Hi, I have a couple of corydoras Julii in a planted tank at home and I have a question regarding a female. This female is much larger than what I perceive to be the male and she has a really swollen belly like she is full of eggs. I can't get a picture to show you but she is swimming around very happily and eating well so I don't think she is sick in anyway. Could she be pregnant? Any help would be great.

Cheers

Hi. The C.julii is a nice cory. Like most cories the fem get quite rotund but it doesn't mean they will spawn. However, in saying this the C.julii is prob a better species to expect a spawning from. If under the correct conditions, except to see eggs being deposited everywhere. I use to have many Cory types around 13 ? and i can say that prob success was with around 50%. You need to work hard at developing a system that suits you. I think our faults lie in not recognizing or being able to simulator fav conditions. Unless they need a shot of hormones like the rarer cats, i think cories are prolific when you get them going. Definitely a nice reliable, tough little fish to play with. I think Allan is one of the best guys around to talk to about these critters. He's also a helpful gent!!!
