Title: breeding b/n - bad dad?
Post by: zoezealand on September 28, 2006, 07:48:37 PM
hey folks,

just wondering, if a b/n dad is only near and possible fanning the eggs about 1/2 the time, is he still doing a good job?
or is he a bad dad :(

thanks

My b/n have only breed once before (in a different tank and a while ago)

The tank they are in is suspended, so with a mirror I can see under a flowerpot, and there are definatly eggs (at least 4 days old), but the dad is only near them ~30% of the time, all the websites I have read said that the dad 'fans' the eggs, so I thought prehaps my male wasn't doing this so the eggs may be better raised artifically

I shall wait and see if this lot hatch
thanks
Kathryn

Your best bet is after this batch
Get him a breeding log there the ones with the end closed in
He will feel safer that way and he might stay with the eggs till they hatch

my b/n were in another tank with limited decorations when they spawned the first time, so it was in this flowerpot,

I lost most of the fry to the tankmates, so now they are in 2ft tank by themselves with many ideal caves :D , yet the male insists on the tiny flower pot he had before...

A lot of young male bristlenose, dont spend all their time fanning the eggs, a lot will go for a bit of a wonder.
As they get older they usually spend more and more time doing their job. I suppose its just a bit of a learning curve for them.
