Title: Tropheops Red Cheek
Post by: Ulysses048 on October 08, 2006, 04:04:26 PM
Purchased two lots of these beautiful fish - thinking they were similar to our Duboisi and Moliros - but after some research, realise they are a completely different species - not tropheus - but tropheops.
Some sites say they should be fed brine mix while others say they are algae eaters.
Could others who keep this species please share their experiences and advise what they feed them.
Regards

Hi,
They were mine.
I was feeding them pellets and flake with the occational feed of frozen bloodworm.
I have them in with fuellibourni and they do very well.

Thank you for your advice .... and thank you Phil - these are nice fish !!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our first Gold Coast auction - and think we will have to make it a regular event.

A bit like Pseudotropheus, largely herbivores so I feed mine HBH Veggie Flake with occasional NLS.
Fairly robust fish, don't need extra care like Tropheus. Mine breed just with a 1/3 tank water change every 3 weeks - just the hard water from the tap, no buffer etc.
Need plenty of rocks to hide and be happy, and will munch thru most plants except Java Fern which they don't touch at all.
One male will become the dominant so you may have to remove any sub-dominant males over time or risk losing them to aggression.
