His body is a bit deep. Mine has a narrower body and most of the males I have seen before. His body shape is more like a peacock.

he might be a midnight blue they tend to be deeper in the body ill show the pic to a friend who breeds em and see what he thinks ill try to find the proper name for you too peter
You can also see the colouring in his fins which indicates it is more inclined to be a peacock species.
I'm 99.9% it's a peacock, most likely the Aulonocara stuartgranti (Chilumba). It has a completely different jaw structure to the Electric Blue, and I can see the "flute holes" that characterise the Aulonocara, those visiable pits and grooves on their jaw that they use to sense movement in the surrounding water and sand - most peacock species feed on tiny inverterbates on the sandy bottom of the Lake, which is why most people recommend less course gravel if keeping them.
For interest Aulonocara is Latin for "pipe head", so looks to me your one is definitely a "pipe head". Colouration seems to be a Chilumba which is relatively similar to Elec Blues in overall body colour.
Thanks for the comments guys. I knew this fish just wasn't right.
An E.Blue female actually gave birth to this guy which leads me to beleive he's a hybrid because i had peacocks in the same tank.
I have a A.Chilumba in there atm, he looks similar but is different and has a deeper body/bigger egg spots than this hybrid. Also, notice the white stripe down the hybrid's nose in the second pic, i've never seen a peacock with that?
I'll have to put him down along with his other brother and sisters who he's been breeding with. But don't worry i havn't been selling the fry, I've been using them to feed to my comps and calvus.
Well I recken if u r just using them as feeders any ways
Why get ride of them just keep freeding the fry to ya fish
and save buy feeders ?
Andrew
if they are good breeders they might be good hosts for cuckoos...
well it was just a thought
yeah, some good suggestions there Roo and Emiee, thanks.
i'll be blunt
he has eggspots and irregular height.
he is a hybrid.
