Title: Sexing Hecqui
Post by: Shane on October 10, 2006, 01:35:44 PM
Hey guys
i have had some hecqui for a while now and while most are over 4 cms i still have not seen any breeding behaviour. The smallest in the tank would be around 3.5 cms and does not hide in the shells, as with 3 of the other larger fish. one of the largest fish is still hiding in the shells. Can anyone help me out with some info on how to sex them, i have tried searching but not much info on these little buggers. They all seem happy enough with not much aggression, i have seen some of the larger ones in the top of the tank before though, but they always swim away and hide in the rocks when anyone goes near the tank.

Cheers

Shane

normally the male grows much larger than the female.

yeah i already knew that, thats why i thought it was strange if one of the bigger fish was in the shell cause i thought the males did not live in the shells.

i have meeli which are very similar and my male is always in and out of shells.
apart from size difference i think the only other way to sex them is to vent them.
