Has anyone here bought fish interstate...for example, from sydney??
it seems like a risky thing to do, buying fish from someone in another state that you've never met? in the worst case, the payment could be made and no fish received, or the fish could be DOA.
Can anyone give some advice to a potential buyer on how to buy fish from interstate safely?
thanks
hi i have sold to a fella in melbourne before and i must say that that was the most nervous 2 - 3 hours of time i have had with fish.
he payed for the lot and i did not want to give him anything less then what i said that the fish were anyway in the end he was really really happy with his new fish and i was $1200 richer.
but i think that i would be too scared to buy but then again people do it everyday and things rarely go wrong so it probably is not that bad thanks.
Hi Benji,
I have shipped fish myself a number of times in recent years to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Townsville without experienciing any problems. All fish arrived safely and all buyers were very happy with their fish. And I have bought fish myself from interstate, including Perth, without any problems.
I believe there are two issues you need to be comfortable with before proceeding with buying fish from somebody interstate :
1. Is the person honest and reputable? Are the fish as described, and will they send them after accepting your money?
2. Do they know what they are doing? Do they know how to purge and pack fish, and do they have access to oxygen? You need your fish to arrive alive and in good shape.
There is no tried and true formula to establish your confidence with these two factors, and I guess the effort you put into it will depend on the dollar value of the fish you are intending to purchase.
Cheers, Doug
