Well, never had this happen before - one of my Electric Yellows (about 5cm, think it's a male), decided to eat a stray cockroach leg and got it stuck in his mouth. :(
I didn't find out until I noticed he wasn't eating yesterday, and saw the leg protruding from his mouth. I also noticed a single small patch of dark brown on his gill plates, both sides. So I took him out and used a pair of tweasers to pull the leg out, which didn't come very easily unfortunately.
Got the leg out but wondering if some kind of damage has been done by either poisoning or the spiney bits on the leg to his digestive system. I've hospitalised him in a 2ft and am dosing with Melafix.
God knows what the cocky leg may have done to his system especially being that it was hard to extract, but other than that he seems fine with no loss of colour, if not a little less active.
Anyone else have a similar experience with their fish and anything else I should do?
Mine always have a chew on insects aspecially cockies as my fish room is full of them because you cannot treat for them in there.Never had a problem with em digesting though as the stomach acids break down the cuticle of the shell. I used to give mine heaps of march flies but they haven't been as thick the last few years and they love termites no shortage here of those.
