i was wondering if i put some tropheus in with my eretmodus do you think there will be any fighting?
my only concern is competition as they are both algal scrapers. the eretmodus are one of the most non aggresive fish i have come across but when they want to they can do some damage.
has any one trid it before??
thanks in advance matt
Mate this shouldn't be a problem as both generally only fight with their own species even though they eat the same foods the only problem I see is making sure the gobies get enough food as tropheus can be pigs.
I have never seen these in aussie (definatly doesnt mean they arnt here) Im keen to hear how you go and how much you pay for them, sound like an interesting fish, and as abit of a tropheus nut myself would be keen to mix them aswell.
About time the males picked up some of the slack, letting my girls get all skinny while they fight lol.
i paid a bit for my eretmodus but they are constantly breeding and i have some fry which are comming up to selling size.
i will try add them and just make sure there is plenty of food in the tank.
im always adding algae covered rocks from the river which are eaten with relish.
normally triggers a spawn!
anyhow ill let ppl know how they go and try get some pics.
Hey grum belive they are an allowable import so they are here but are exxy in price. bay has them on their list from time to time but it sounds like matt has got them going well. So I would wait for his.
hey matt,
i was doing a bit of research on these guys and came across this in an articale** The food of choice for E. cyanostictus is a good Spirulina flake. Mysis and Cyclops make good supplementary foods, but avoid Brine Shrimp at all costs. Suitable tankmates include other algae-eating tanganyikans, such as Tropheus and Simochromis species. 88
hoped that help
cheers luke
p.s u have a pm
im hopefully getting the tropheus today and i saw them yesterday and they look soo cool. they are changing from their juv pattern to the adult colour. one is almost fully changed and others are still looking juvinile so hopefully there are some male and females in the bunc.
im only getting 6 as i have a standard 4 foot tank and dont want to over do it. ill try get some photos for the thread but i have to figure out how to host them.
anyway hope all goes well and i hope there is no mini fights. the eretmodus are a lot bigger and hopefully rule the tank over the tropheus.
matt
i dont think there will be many fights at all between the gobys and the tropheus but with only 6 tropheus theyre will be a bit of fighting.. it might be fine but if it was me id have a look around and see if you can find another 5 or 6 tropheus from a different line to add aswell so yo can spread out the aggression.. what kind of trophs are you getting? anyway good luck with them!
Hi Mat
I am very interested to know if the Gobys continue to spawn after the introduction of Tropheus. If they do? would you let them release the fry in the tank or strip the male before ? what are you currently doing ?. We have had succses with the Gobys as well but i would be worried about the Tropheus eating the fry ( Goby) if you let them release in the tank... We have found the Tropheus go crazy with the introduction of any available protien and it would be a shame if it were at the expence of such a lovely fish like Eretmodus http://www.thecichlidgallery.com/article_eretmodus.htm
We used the above link to aid in breading the Gobys. With some slight variations to suit our situation, have had some great results. Please let us know how it goes.
Thanks Evan
i introduced the tropheus and 2 days later the female has a mouthful so i guess the introduction of more fish didnt bother the eretmodus. i want to let the male spit naturally as i think stripping him is very stressful for him. the tropheus are relativly small still and there are lots of small rocks for the little fellas to hide in.
i also just mooved the tank prior to that as we had new carpet put in and that didnt seem to bother them either. ill let you know how all goes, if i have to ill strip the male wait a bit for the babies to get some size about them and then release them into the tank as they grow a lot faster in the main tank then in their breeder net.
hope this helps,
ps what geo location eretmodus do you have "flipingout"? (i have Mkombe)
