Title: yellow not eating (UPDATE fish died)
Post by: JoshM on December 11, 2006, 06:11:14 PM
hi all,

Well we have finally set up our first cichlid tank  :D  however we have a small problem. One of our electric yellows will not eat. we have had it for nearly two weeks now and it wont eat, it just hides alot of the time and if it does come out for food it only looks at it or spits it straight out again. We have just noticed that it has started to poop white aswell 8O and it starting to look a little thin

I had a look through a fish disease book and think that it might be spironucleus....what do your guys think.

All the water parameters are fine..0 ammonia 0 nitrite, nitrate 5ppm 100 gh, 120 kh, ph 8.0.

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Josh and Kylie

is any thing bullying him/her.
it might be a little stressed out.  you could try add a few more hidy holes for it then the next day add some live food and see if that entices it.
matt
ps good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah nothing is bullying it it just gets left alone and hides. The other two yellows are doing fine.

We have tried feeding NLS as well as brine shrimp but it just wont eat either of them.

Might be a stupid question but... its not a female holding is it?

white stringy poo might be a sign of wasting or bloat, does it look bulky in the stomach?

Try a dose of salt and if you can get it some flagyl.

Title: fish died
Post by: JoshM on December 12, 2006, 10:42:37 PM
hey guys,

just an update, the fish died tonight. got some metro/flagyl today but it was to late. it was looking a little bloated when you looked at it from the top today plus it developed a ulcer type thing one one side near its butt and when you looked underneath the fish the area between its front fins and its butt looked as it was see through, as if you could see its intestines or some pale/creamy looking thing.

thankyou for the replys, will continue the metro treatment for the next two days to make sure none of the other fish get sick.

Only just finished stocking the tank after the death tank experience. Bad start to keeping cichlids but its too late now...we have been biten by the bug lol

Cheers
Josh and Kylie
