Title: Holiday Feeding
Post by: wombat on December 16, 2006, 09:35:37 PM
We are going away on holidays at Xmas and don't know what to do with our 4 tanks and fry. Has anyone got any suggestions or know of anyone in the Sunshine Coast area who takes care of fish for people while they are away? We bought some automatic feeders but one is already broken and we definately wouldn't trust these for two weeks. :?

teach someone you can trust how to feed them properly then get them to drop in every second day and feed them and to check up on things..

that's the best option imo.

Thanks for your opinions guys, I think I will recruit a friend to do the job, my first thought (after seeing how useless these auto feeders where) was some sort of pet services company, like the ones that advertise to come and feed your dog/cat. But one with fish keeping knowledge.

I used weekend feeders on a tank once, and when I returned after 4 days all the fish where dead, so I am not a fan at all on feeder blocks.
Title: Try the Hydor Mixo

Hey,

I'm in the same predicament as you. I bought a couple of the Hydor Mixo's from the site sponsor Age of Aquariums. Its $80-90 but they work great. If you buy those auto feeders you have to go for the brand name. Your fish cost a lot so it pays to spend a bit on these devices.

I highly recommend spending the bucks and get an auto feeder.
Over the years I've lost an entire display tank as well as a colony of quality P.saulosi to well intentioned people feeding my fish while on holidays.
I've since invested in the Eheim feeder and it's an excellent piece of kit that has always done the job.

Title: weekend feeders

Am I correct in saying that 'weekend feeders' don't dissolve in water with a high pH so are therefore useless for cichlids.
