If possible put it out in the sun!!
Good bit of solar radiation will kill anything!

one thing you never do is put boiling water in it ;)

But salt is a pretty good disinfectant.

Hello :D  members ,all the idea's   sound good to me, so i will start with the chlorine first for two days then the salt and last of all the natural sun light to dry it out.do you think this will be enough time to kill all the bugs in the tank :?: i have five electric yellows out of eleven left in the tank,i think i will through them out,i was trying to help a friend and bring them back to good health ,but they are far too gone, they won't eat and they change from bright yellow to a light lemon then grey and their guts are caved in and one dies each day, they are good one day dead the next.i have tried chemicials and adding  sea salt to the water. i think from now on i will just look after my own fish it is easier to do :o   . cheers very one

Personally I'd use Conde's Crystals - just fill the tank, add a teaspoon of the crystals, leave it a few minutes then rinse clean. No residue problems, as with chlorines or bleach or whatever, and it even gets rid of any traces of a snail problem too.

also if you leave it in the sun to long ,it starts to brake down the silicone hold the tank together.

Sultana has been looking after my sick electric yellows while i have been away working.  At christmas i lost a couple which i thought was unlucky as they didn't have an marks or lost colour or been doing anything strange.  I bought another 2 colonies from 2 different shops and added to the tank. They have all slowly died off.  They won't eat and just seem to waste away.  When they start to lose colour they die in a couple hours.  He cut one open and found the stomach to be under pressure and really stunk.  Any thing else you can ad sultana that i haven't already. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have the tank they come from to clean.  ALso whats the best why to treat my canister filter as well. cheers michael

the stomach was under pressure?? as in bloated?? after death??
thats unusual........

but seriously of course after the fish dies the stomach is going to expand as gasses are created....also explains the smell.
i think year 7 science

have you talked to a professional (ie lfs) bout this or just watched the fish die?

a good medicine that works on practically anything is metronidazol if you can get ahold of it.

need a prescription tho.
maybe go to a vet and tell them you have a discus with "hole in the head" if your lucky he will supply you with it
