Title: PUMP SET UP FOR BREEDING TANKS
Post by: jay on February 21, 2007, 12:42:07 PM
Hi,there  im setting up breeding tanks . the tanks are 600x300x300 and hold aprox 52Lts each . setting up 10x tanks all up 520Lts doing one big sump set up.and was woulding what size tank i need in Lts for the sump and will a 6800L/h submersible pump do the job.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 thank you.  :D

i would be looking at 2000 lt hr. you really only need to turn the water over twice per hr with good filtration. and just have a bypass  for any excess and return to sumpback to sump

Hi Jay, get a submersible pump rather than a powerhead, a submersible pump has a better head height (it can pump water higher) than powerhead of the same l/ph.

Cheers

HI, thanks for your reply cory fan im setting up 10x 2ft tanks for breeding and i was woulding will the 6800L/h submersible pump be to much to run all 10 tanks  and what size sump tank will need.                                                                                                                                                 if anyone can help me out with this  :?:  :

the smallest sump u can use is 2ft   but not with a 6800l/hr pump. I reckon a 2000L/hr pump will do the job well.

Had read somewhere saying the sump should be atleast 10% of the total volume of ur system.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your reply cory fan .I'M runing all 10 tanks into the one sump .so the 2000L/h submersible will have the power to push threw the pluming and uv clariflying sterillers . i emailed the guy with the pumps and ask him about the 3000L/h submersile . and he told me that the 2000L/h  whould not run all 10x tanks. :?  :?:

     thanks jay

Hi Jay,

Make sure your sump is big enough to hold all the water that overflows if your power goes off. Otherwise, the sump will overflow and when the power comes back on will run itself dry and probably burn out your pump.

Cheers, Doug
