Title: Advice needed - sealant for leaky tank
Post by: msfancypants on February 27, 2007, 08:33:20 PM
Hi! I'm new to this site & this is my first post. I need some advice - I have a leak somewhere in my 6ft tank, I think around the base. Am planning to empty it this weekend & track the leak down. Any advice as to what kind of sealant to use, especially if I apply it to the inside of the tank? I don't want to poison my fish!!

MS if your just fixing a leak and not pulling the whole tank apart get ya self down to bunnings, to the paint dept and find the silicon section.
i think its sellies that make aquarium safe silicon.

once home get a sharp blade and cut out the silicon around the inside base of the tank, making sure you dont go in under the glass.
all you want to be doing is just taking out the silicon in the corner of where two sheets of glass come together.
once you have all that cleaned out go over it with metho to clean the glass.

start in one corner and squirt a bead of silicon about 1cm thick all the way around the base then go over it with your finger to push the silicon right into the corner, but leave it nice and fat......see below.
