We have decided to give our members a chance to design our new site banner. We are looking for a very clean professional style of banner. We require something original that will set us apart from all others. It is our intention for this new banner to become our official logo.
The banner will need to contain the following information.
Scales & Fins
Dedicated to scales and fins knowledge and acquisitionswill also require an aquatic and Herp image(s) of some kind. eg cichlid, snake, lizard etc etc.
Image size approx 500 x 110 pixels.
The rest is up to your imagination.
The member who is responsible for the winning banner will receive 2kg of premium grade fish food.
You can submit entries here online or email them to;
bannercomp@qldcichlid.comLet the banners start rolling in. There are no restrictions to the amount of entries one member can make.

Can I use someone else's photograph in my work if I change at least 10% or make 5
changes?
There is no rule in copyright law that permits reproduction of an image if a percentage of it is changed, or if a certain number of alterations are made. If you can put the two works side by side and identify important parts from the original that have been copied, it is likely that you need permission.
so is it ok to use photos of eg. snakes and fish that we find off net or where-ever, or must they be original photos say that you take on your personal camera....
Because I downloaded some pics, but I only used little bits, not like i downloaded teh banner.
there was no copyrights on any photos I used. ???
if needed i can forward the progress pics.

Using photo's off the net is a breach of copyright, flick the photographer an email they are usually quite happy to see there photo used for such purposes.
If you a winner we will check it out before using it!

Can you use pictures from sites without a copyright notice at the bottom of the page. Because only australian websites get free copyright protection right?
So if its not an AU website and no copyright at the bottom we can use it? Because it won't have any copyright protection

copyright is automatic for countries like au, us, uk and a few others most eu's i think? Yes there are sites out there were there will be images you can use as there is no copyright. Best bet though, if you dont know if you can use them ask or dont use...

well I have just done a major run around of emails to try and track down the photo's owners and seek permission.
Hopefully I don't get ignored, because I have no chance in hell of getting good enough photos of my own fish and even worse a chance trying to get a picture of reptiles!! :o
You will find that most people are more than happy to give you permission to use a picture or part of a pic. The only time that they get annoyed is when they see their picture somewhere with anothers name on it making claims to it.....
Just let them know what you are doing, that you are entering a banner comp, even give them the URL so that they can have a look how it will be used.
