Title: Tank Repairs in Brisbane
Post by: annparisi on March 16, 2007, 07:47:40 PM
Does anyone know someone who does tank repairs is Brisbane (southside). I have a 4x18x20 that is 14months old and the aquarium shop I got it from claims it is not their problem as it is over the 12months. I can not believe they think it is OK for a silicone seal to only last 12months on a tank they built. I have had tanks 10 or more years old never loose a drop.

Either way I am concerned just patching where I think it is leaking will only lead to other leaks in the coming months or will it be OK for me to just remove the old silicone from the whole inside of the tank and run silicone around all the edges.

PS the leak is from the edge between the base and side so I need to get it sorted asap as my baby discus have been downgraded to a stryo box for the moment.

I have the same problem, a 6x18x20 I'd say it's a good chance we got them from the same place...about 2 years old.

My tank is also leaking between the bottom and the side.
Fortunately I have accommidated them in some large tubs but I'm going to reseal it myself, I'm going to scrape out all the old silicone on the base (inside tank) and up the sides, so as I don't have joins where there is old silicone meeting new, less chance of a leak.

Not unless someone who knows how wants to come over and help me do it over a carton of carlton cold.... ;D

*King* whereabouts is Ian.....as my tank is in my shed, and preferably staying there :D

Bah might have a shot at it myself anyways.
Good luck with yours!!

Hi
I have don't it a few times in the past
but make shore u have goten out the old silicone give it a good clean with metho and let it dry

So do 1 edge at a time and just wet ya finger and run it along the beed to make shore the silicon is pushed in to the groove

Let it stand for 72 hours then a quick wash and fill it slowly over a day to check for leaks
Then drain  and there ya go

ps try not to have your head in the tank for too long the fumes will give ya a good head spinn lol

No I am not naming the shop.

Even the best of companies can built a tank that leaks. I have since been in contact with the shop owner whereas I had been dealing with a staff member previously. Shop now has the tank and they are going to repair it. I am more than happy with the way the owner has dealt with this matter.
