Post by: gasnitro on June 14, 2005, 07:27:00 PM
Where do you measure fish from, tip top tip or to the start of the tail? when you sell your Africans

department of prime industries and competition fishing legally requires you measure frome the nose to the FORK in the tail, but if your selling a fish I would  include the tail fins to make the fish sound as big as you can.I think most people would use this method.  Ash

SL = standard length, from the tip of the nose to where the tail starts. This is how fish are measured for official purposes, eg aquarium shows.<

>TL = total length which includes the tail.<

>Personally, I don''t think it matters which method you use, as long as you specify which it is. Generally, SL is mainly used by Aquarium Club members used to showing fish, so unless SL is specified, I always assume TL is being used. And more importantly, whichever method you use, always give a truthful and accurate size for the fish you are offering (ie don''t use my dear old Dad''s fishing ruler, LOL). Personally, I prefer to understate the size of fish I am offering and give the buyer a pleasant surprise when they see them, rather than receive an embarrassed silence. That is the way to get repeat sales, particularly when you dealing with lfs.<
