some may remember I posted if anyone knew about a gravel cleaner for cleaning substrates such as sand and fine grade calc carb.

My home made one works effeciently and is perfectly balanced for no loss of substrate with maximum suction for waste removal.......anyways

1 x 1.25 litre SOLO ( or flavour of your choice ) bottle with the bottom cut out. Cut a 10mm hole in the plastic screw on lid and put it on the bottle. Jam your desired amount of 13mm poly tube into it and voila. dont silicon it or tape it up as you can fine tune the depth of the polytube to your requirements.

even with the large diameter of the bottle, cleaning is a breeze - it can be squished to get inbetween rocks etc - but you must use a 1.25Litre bottle for it to work properly

hope this helps you - if you have fine substrate
Cheers.....
