I am looking for some freshwater rays for an indoor pond. Are they available?

Or even legal?

Where do they originate from, and are the ones available wild caught or bred? Never really heard anything about them.

rowley89

The originate from South America.

Not all are wild caught. There are people breeding them.

As for price, not a clue sorry mate, but you may want to try asking at some of the more"amiable" fish stores about, ie one that will import it if you can find it and its legal, basically try here

just about to open their third store so I guess their customer relations are top notch

you could try and catch one of the estuary cow tail rays that we get along our coast and convert it to freshwater, or have a brackish pond....just a thought... i have seen leopard patterned rays in brackish areas in queensland  but they are usually close to a meter across....

Hmm, i think rays are pretty but maybe best left to their own environment. There are other natives which are pretty interesting- take for example, jungle perch. Very pretty and extremely intelligent. Out do Mangrove Jacks and Barra any day, but that's my opinion only. Mangrove eels are another fish that you might like to consider. Really rich purple colour and as aggressive as your girlfriend finding you with another bloke!!!
