I just bought a dollars worth of oxheart(I''m guessing its the same?).<
><
>And just wondered how people fed it to their
istlenose? fish fish fish fish turkey fish fish gobble

DeagonTheo

Get all the skin and sinews off it, freeze it and get a serrated knife to scrape into the tank.<

dyce, <
>i blended up some beef heart with a bit of water, put it in a container and then froze it.<
>when it came to feeding it to them, i just scraped a bit out under the water. <
>the water temp helped to soften up the top layer a bit so it came out in nice little pieces.<
><
>agree, get as much fat, sinew and anything else that ain''t red off of it. it''s tough and it floats. Steven & Amy<

this will take some sweet talking but get the mrs blender and cut the heart into cubes, and drop them in. while your at it boil some pumpkin, say 3 or 4 cubes about 2 inch sq and blend with the beef heart. also put in half a zuchini.<
>blend well and place into a plastic bag, that is flattened out and frozen.<
>then just
ake off what you need. it will flote but as it melts it will sink to the bottom.<

Close to a nice apple snail food I was making.......    although I added a good few handfuls of Hills science diet cat food as well........<
><
>Anyone ever used whey protien powder? Looks like it would gel up real nice and it''s cheap.....   also a bit less gross than beef heart, not that it bothers me but some....

Hmmmmm, may be time to repost my own home
ew formula!!<
><
>1 Kg white fish,,,,cod or what ever is cheap (Skinned)<
>1 Kg the cheapest prawns you can find<
>1 Kg liver<
>1 kg heart (Beef or sheep) remove fat and sinue etc,,,<
>1 Kg carrots (Cooked till tender and cooled)<
>Couple of bunches of silver beet (steamed)<
>1 Kg pumpkin (cooked and cooled)don''t bother removing the skin, the whole lot goes in.<
>2 Packets of Hienz baby food<
>250 grams of Spirulina powder (From the health food shop)<
>1 dozen eggs.<
><
>The whole lot is passed though a heavy duty mincer or food processor two or three times mixing thourougherly,,,prawns , heads and all,  eggs shell and all.<
><
>The resulting ''gloop'' is placed in pyrex dishes and cooked through in a low oven.<
><
>No gelatine is needed as the eggs and liquids from the liver and heart bind the mixture when cooked.<
><
>The cooled goo is then rolled into glad wrapped sausages an inch or so in diameter and frozen.<
><
>To feed, the required amount is unwrapped and with a SHARP knife shave (For fry) or cut (For bigger fish) the feed.<
><
>I use this as universal tucker for most fish for one feed each day.   The other feed is a according to their specific needs using commercial foods, live food or what ever.<
><
>Alan.<
><
>PS... if the amounts are too much, get a few mates together, or divide the quantities.  But for about $60 I get a couple of months feeding my hungry
ood.<

I''m lucky. I have hoplo''s and they like even the mixes that frighten dogs so I have little waste.<
>Last batch was a vege mash of the 5 things that looked a bit ordinary in the crisper, mixed in some gelatin and then set it with a handful of earth worms (unchopped) and a few handfuls of bashed (put in a plastic bag bash with a
ick....   it''s fast ) frozen marinara seafood mix.  Freeze it in sheets and
eak off bits to feed.  Breaks apart into nice chunks in the water.<
>I try not to make up big batches because they take up too much freezer room. Once you start looking you realise there are a lot of things you can feed fish.<
>Some fish are fussy and get hooked on certain foods. But others like hoplo''s and iron gut mbuna seem to enjoy a bit of something new. I imagine they would happily eat food that was going to poison them so you have to be careful and think first. <
>I have an electric yellow female that likes tomato. Everynow and again I remember and give her a bit. Never noticed any ill effects.<
>Alan I noticed you use liver, this is something I have never tried but wondered about. Have you noticed any boost in plant growth with all that extra iron?  <
>Fish food sausage roll is also an excellent method. Will definitely copy that in future. Would be great to find a nice paste recipe that you could push through a screen, cutting it with a knife at required length and then bake into pellets.<
>Needs to be more variety in the home made foods. flake and pellet making technology would be nice to have indeed.<
>Dehydrators are an interesting idea too methinks. Stored dry zuccini slices. Pea mush roll up.<
>Iron fish chef show down......   and tonight you will be cooking for baby
istlys and the secret ingredient is.......   BEEFHEART!!!

Well I just chucked a bit of raw beefheart in the bn tank and it went straight away.<
><
>Then I tried a semi-recipe of a pack of beefheat, half a zucchini and 3 eggs, processed it and started cooking it like alan said... but i think I over cooked it(I''m guessing so), ended up like a giant semi cooked meat-patty, I chucked a bit into the bn tank but it floats and semi disintergrates  , although I gave a bit to the cichlids and they ate it. <
><
>Probably should''ve just left it in little raw cubes... unless a meatpatty is waht you aim for which I doubt it is, haha. fish fish fish fish turkey fish fish gobble

simple.....<
>Although it''s kinda disturbing how much they like it......   <
>How long do you think it would take a 6X2X2 with 500 BN to eat through a cadaver?<
>Uhhhh....   no reason.<
