Through a series of mistakes from Wednesday 12/01/05 to friday 14/01/05 ,ei. not opening the hot house to not closing it properly and so on ,I had a 10 degree temperature change in the water ,this resulted in 9 species of corydoras spawning .<
>something I have not taken a lot of notice of before was the position of the eggs in the tanks ,they go like this.<
>.<
>Cory duplicareus , most eggs with in 2cm of the water surface ,but the strange bit, 40% are 1cm above the water line and are very large eggs .<
><
>Cory narcissus ,(big fish small egg) lay there eggs on the bottom of the tank something I didn''t think any cory did <
>.<
>Cory barbatus piled there eggs up to three deep on top of one an other in an area the size of a 50 cent piece ,low fertility only there 2nd spawn.<
><
>Cory panda ,same as duplicareus but smaller eggs .<
><
>Cory aeneus neon green stripe, all over the tank , same for
onze , albino and pepper .<
><
>Cory nattereri layed in the filter out flow.<
><
>All were in tanks 2 by 1 by 15 inches and side by side , water temp was 26 . Has any one else noted where there corys prefer to lay there eggs ?? I am interested to know how many weird places corys lay in .<

<
>Hi Bob, its been many years since I last spawned corys, but I distinctly remember my peppered corys consistently attaching their eggs all over a plastic box filter in their tank as well as all over the sides of the tank.<

My Cory aeneus put their eggs everywhere as well including the outtake of a 2000lt internal filter.<

HI all. With my cory''s i all put internal filter with spray bar attached splashing from above the surface. And never have problems
eeding them at all.though slight change in temp.<
>seems to help..<
><
>cheers sharon

Just to clear temp. up at 4 in the afternoon temp was 32 ,over night it dropped to 22 ,by 11 am Friday when I got home the water was 26 and the last of the corys were spawning .what I was looking for was the odd places they spawn like out of water ,was talking to another cory
eeder Saturday they said same about deups out of water , why I wonder .

Any time I want my corys to
eed I just add cold water. Sometimes if I''m feeling lazy I add soem frozen water bottles. Like above my albinos
eed everywhere including all over the power filter, their favourite spot. <

>The
onze and peppers tend to lay on the silicone in large clumps whilst the trileanatus tend to lay with no two eggs touching each other.<

This is one of the most interesting and challanging things about catfish!!! even tho they are all cories or what ever, they all seem to differ.<
><
>Not like cichlids, of what ever region, that all do the same thing.  Catfish have all sorts of tricky behaviour.  There are some species I have kept for 10 years or more and never been able to get them spawn ( melini, leopardus, melenotania,
evirostus, reticulatus, axelrodi), are a few that I tried for years to
eed, but had no success.<
><
>That does not say that I might not be lucky tomorrow !!! is what keeps an aquarist keen!!!<

i picked up a colony of about 12-14 metae corys last week, just wondering if their is any conditions which they prefer to
eed?<
>ratio males/females to tank size (currently got them holding in a 2 footer)<
>are they better off 1m/1f?<
>other tank conditions?<
><

ed corys before and I''m hoping they pick up for me!  Steven & Amy<

Go to planet catfish, then forums and look in Callichthyidae.<

>There is lots of good  reeding to be found .<

yeh, i''ve been there before, it''s pretty handy.<
>just couldn''t find any info on numbers to group to
eed.<
>like, 1m/1f? or trios or more?<
>cories are a new thing for me.<

Ok,  most corys are best with 2 male to 1 female.ei 6m 3mf.<
><
>Feed them up on blood worm and live black worm  for a couple of weeks ,doing small part water changes during this time and when the females look fat ,do a 80% water change with water you have aged in a bucket and added ice to, you want to drop the temp in the bucket by about 6 degrees  before adding it to the tank, this will usually trigger most common corys to spawn.<

Gee,  you didn''t pick the easiest of cories to start with did you !!!<
><
>If flock/group
eeding equal male to female ratio is OK.  Or 2 M to 1 F if you are trying small tank
eeding.<
><
>It is just a bit warm for metae at the moment, they are mid temp spawners, 23 - 25C and they are not all that prolific.<
><
>Expect a small number of large eggs scattered all over the tank.   Usually pretty fertile and most eggs hatch.<
><
>Some references say up to 80 eggs per female, but I have never had more than 20.  And only a couple of spawns per year.  Not like some cories that spawn every 7 to 10 days if conditions are right.<
><
