hey all,<
><
>I''ve got 5 fish in my tank right now:<
>Hongi, e.blue, red shoulder peacock, acei and a maingano.  Looking at getting rid of the maingano and the hongi soon, as the maingano is a female (what i thought as male) and the hongi is a bit of a biter in the tank.<
><
>Anyway, real question is, my tank is a 36x15x18 and I want to put newer fish in to spruce it back up.  Is it a problem mixing 3-6cm juves with adult fish?<
><
>So I will have remaining: e.blue, red shoulder and acei.<
>Would like the following if possible:<
>e.yellow<
>lwanda<

How big are your adult fish? Also, looking at your list of fish - they grow pretty big and you may be a bit cramped for space in that standard 3 footer. <
>To be honest, if you wanna get more fish you''ll need to go to a 4ft at least, preferably a 48" x 18" x 18". Your Elec Blue will grow to about 6-7" and just the Lwanda for example grows to about 6", along with your red shoulder which will grow to same size. Some pretty decent sized fish in a 3ft.<
>If it''s feasible for you, it''s not too hard to upgrade to the 4ft. You should be able to pick up a good second hand for cheap on this forum or Trading Post, along with a cheap stand and light. Plus filtration set-ups are very affordable nowadays (compared to not even 5 years ago), thanks to Korean/Chinese manufacturing. Not sure what you currently have but a 1200L/Hr+ External canister should do the job depending on your load of fish. <
>IMO most keen enthusiasts have at least a 4ft and there''s so much more you can do with it.<

Come to think of it, your Mbuna are fairly aggressive along with the Elec Blue, while the peacocks are more timid in comparrison and especially an Elec Yellow.<
>So as they grow you could have some significant aggression problems. Another reason to go a 4ft. Either that or get rid of your peacocks outta the equation. <
>Hope this isn''t heart
eaking news, but I''m sure others will agree.

Yeah, this is my first ever tank and it''s 18 months old now.  I would absolutely love a bigger tank, but there''s just no room in my current house.  <
><
>When I move I plan for a 6foot cichlid tank and converting my current 3" to a saltwater tank.<
><
>My adult fish, keeping in mind i''ll get rid of the maingano and the lab:<
>E.blue: around 10cm, so 4"<
>Red shoulder: around 12.5cm so 5"<
>Acei: around 10cm so 4"<
>

Not sure if I said it, but i''ll be getting rid of the maingano and the lab hongi as they''re the more aggressive of the two.  The acei seems quite placid surprisingly.

I think it should be alright if the bubs aren''t big enough to fit in the bigger fish''s mouths. I have a 3 footer with fireblues and hongi''s and have about 6 hongi''s living in there that have hidden from being eaten that live alright, as long as they have hiding spots that the adults can''t get at(I have some slate caves with some gaps they hide in). fish fish fish fish turkey fish fish gobble

I suppose I could arrange something for them

Floor space, or the footprint of an aquarium, is the major consideration. Most cichlids keep territories that are along the bottom. <
>My Lwanda has established a territory in my 4ft but my other peacocks haven''t. <
>So you could expect your acei at least to have another section of the tank as it''s territory also. <
><
>As long as your filtration is good, could work I guess.

Weird thing is, my hongi has a lot of the bottom space, as well as the maingano.  Like I said, currently they are the more aggressive two and that''s, and also another reason why i''m getting rid of them (the red shoulder''s had a few nips in his fins a bit lately).  The acei currently maintains a mid-top level area of the tank.  Obviously this might change as the maingano and hongi leave.<

hey, i''d say if you got some yellows around the 5cm mark u''d be alright, mine go ok with aceii, which arent at all aggressive and are being beaten up by a ngara flametail. the lwnada should also be alright, but it isnt a good thing to be mixing different species of peacocks. <
><
>when you go to sell the maingano, i will happily take it off your hands. always looking for more females. <

>cheers, matt
