I Have a 4 foot display tank with Africans. I am Running a Aqua One 2200 external and also a Fluval 2 plus internal. My Water is Really clear but I seem to have dust speckles running through the water.
Does anyone have any thoughts On how to get these out of the water. I am doing fortnightly partial water changes. I currently have my filter media as ceramic rings & foam, basket one, Bio balls & foam basket 2 and then Bio grans and the filter wool pad that came with the filter. The ex ternal filter is really new and dosn't need cleaning. I am thinking of adding filter wool or someting to try and straing these specs out of the tank.

What I use and reccomend for that little bit extra polish of the water is Seachem Purigen
Just add it to the top of your external and you will see the difference

A polishing pad and stuff will clog up quickly and require you to remove it often

With the small water changes, how small is small? Most books will recommend 1/3 change weekly.

What I usual do is use the cannister filter as a bio load, so it's full of noodles, matrix, coarse foam....& the internal filters are set up with fine foam to catch all the small particles.
If all this fails, use purigen, works great at polishing the water & is easily replenished so its only a once outlay.

Hi Guy's Thanks for the tips.
Frenchy the filter is about a week old. My old one packed it in (had this over 2 years) and I just moved the old media, bio ball etc into the new one. I kept them in the old water and moved them over within a day. I think the Bacteria level should be fine.

The Purigen might be the go. I will swap to finer foam in the internal also. How do you replenish the purigen ??. I read you Bleach it or something  I am not sure about Bleach and my tank.  8O

Aquariums Alive

Thats exactly right
You soak it in a bleach-water solution for 24 hours and then in a decent water teratment like Prime

I remember the first time i bleached it i was really skeptical about it but i had no worries
Im also alittle heavy handed with the Prime
All my display tank run Purigen and they havent looked better
