Dead Fish Floating

Just putting up a flare to see if anyone has encountered the 'white knights are a seperate morph of electric blue, found in a different area of Malawi and that crossing with normal electric blues creates hybrids' theory before.
I scored mine from a guru with africans and he passed on to me they were a type of albino mutation (melanistic) that was picked out at wholesaler level and bred up.
Just got hit up by a friend after being told that her crossed fry would be unsellable.
I know crossing a knight with a blue will give mixed fry, but I have seen normal blue fry from knight on knight crosses before I am sure of it, just very low ratio.
So basically whats the goss? same fish/different pigmentation or seperate bloody something or other?

White knights are breed that way form what i understand
and yes thay do throw back to the normals
I was talking to  guy a while back who has or had a pair
And would get about 7 or 8 knights out of a batch of 30 fry
But I gess they would carry the jen to the next batch

Yep thats my experience too.
I was surprised that they were considered a 'different fish'
More like convict pairs that throw the odd albino to me.....  rather than a scorned hybrid.
Just seemed weird to me,  like a bit of blatant guile to get a sale....  if ya know what I mean.
;D

Ya I have been looking for some knoghts for years
I missed out of a few at the auctions
and have been looking for them again ever since

I have been oferd fry a number of times but they never get back to me
o well the hunt goes on lol

I breed white knights here and to be honest have not had a throw back to standard blues yet. The knights are just another colour morph of the blues. Like albinoes sort of. They are a electric blue with different pigmentation and no hybridising with other species like the marbled peacock is. I also breed standard blues here and you can see the differences from the moment of free swimming. I have got a batch of 20 fry here I am keeping for myself and once again havent had a standard blue yet. Damo got some off me don't know whether his are showing any throwbacks. (Just for those that didn't know the original heritage of the marbled peacock is a hybrid form standard blue peacocks and ,marbled zebras.)
don't just want to breed good fish I want to breed WOW fish.

Yea I have trouble with the peacock and OB zebra cross....  namely that I tried and they didn't look anything like peacocks. Some goochy breeding to pull that one off if thats how it went down!
Starting to favour the random mutation like tangerine or melanistic or albino or something.
There are OB convicts out there and panda fronnys...  maybe it could just evolve.
Show me the link to a dna test....   ;D
In my crosses of white knight to white knight I have gotten the odd maybe 1 standard blue in 60 white knight fry.
Not every batch but one or 2.
These fish are my dam nemesis.
Have had the devils luck with them, losing mouthfuls and whole females to random stuff that I should have really known better with.
I have to say they are really no weaker than standard electric blues in my experience, except maybe they didn't handle higher temps as well. Thats a maybe tho.
Considering how common standard electric blues are, and how prolfic, the fact you can just add one male or female knight, then get a bit of a mix in the fry is pretty sweet.
Would be interesting to get a better idea of how true knight to knight breeding from mixed parents would go down.
But I imagine it would be a very high percentage of knights.
They are both awesome fish anyway, so for display fish breeding it wouldn't matter so much.
Maybe some people would like to know the parents if it was adding to a sweet bloodline, but I think the worst damage it can do is throw a few standard blues into the future fry mix.
???

Most lfs should be able to order in, they are still around double the price of electric blues from breeders.
Nice fish :)

They still aren't available on wholesale lists and breeders still trying to build numbers but give em a couple of months and they should start to trickle thru
