Hey guys,

I'm interested in how many of you have successfully spawned and raised silver dollars...

Also, how long do they take to reach about the size of a 50c piece? whats a fair price...$5?

Cheers  ;D

I have had them spawn but have never raised up fry.
Do you have fullsize adults?

I spawn adults over eggcrate in a small group in a longish bare tank and then remove the adults to let eggs hatch.  Try to get more males than females and dont leave them together for too long. 3M-2F would be ideal. The spawning part is the easy part as the adults should be seperated and females conditioned first. I also scrub down and steralize the tank beforehand for optimum hatch rates. You could get away with artificial mops on bottom too I guess.

Raising fry is pretty straightforward but you will need infusoria or vinegar eels initially. The eggs are quite small and baby brine are too big for newly hatched fry. They get to 5cent coin size really fast. You could practice the breeding and raising part with goldfish if you want some useful practice.

I have a breeding colony of 6... 3f(16-18cm), 3m(14cm).

Tank isn't set up for breeding at all, it's more of a display tank. (click on the image below)

They've spawned a few times, first time i vac'd about 300 eggs out and transfered to another tank...fungus took over within 24hrs.

Second time i did a little research and made an egg tumbler from scratch... works like a charm!
This batch is now in another tank, free swimming at about 6mm after 1 week.

I have about 150 geo wrigglers in the tumbler now.
