Hi all,

Well, i have a very odd one, a problem that i have never seen before.

I have one adult female moorii moliro tropheus that has a large red 'tumour' sticking out of it's anus, it is about 1cm in size and while the fish still swims around ok, it is not a good look and i am wondering what it could be?

intestines sticking out? tumour? any ideas as if she is in any pain i will put her down.

If anyone has heard of such a problem before let me know, i will see if it can take a photo and post it up over the weekend.

Cheers all,

Andrew.

Without a pic I am thinking infected/inflamed breeding tube. Does she appear to be distressed or in pain? If your unsure, just have a long hard look. You will know what a normal fish does and if she is acting normal I wouldnt do anything. Fish can be amazingly resiliant and it will probably self heal whatever it is. I doubt it is intestine/hernia.

If you do put her down, I would do a disection just for future knowledge. Photo for own archives is also a good idea.

I once had the same problem with one of my nkonde girls. The first few times I could push it back in. But the last time I couldnt get it back up. She lived for maybe six months before she died. The tube didnt stop her from breeding once it had been pushed back in.
If you decide to push it in then you will cause the fish some pain. It is quite difficult to get back in
I dont know what it is but I guess it is something to do with their breeding tube.
