hi all,

first of all i'd like to start off by saying to the owners and the admin, how great the new forums are....was plesently surprised.

but now down to the point,

I regularly drop by a new lfs or a breeder i hear of and go in for a quick squizz (usually end up buying so much stuff im like a crack addict). But lately i've noticed that alot of the fish stores have sick fish. a few that i've been really dissappointed in were ; An Aquarium at weivel hights and another at stafford :x . On the other hand the pet super store at stafford allways has clean tanks and i very rarely see a dead fish, but they dont have the range others have. I also found that the late " fish r us " was an aewosum store, they were never too busy to help any one and again didnt see one dead fish. And i really loved smiths out at boondal. :)

so now I'm in a bit of a pickle, Any one know of any other good aquarium stores on the nth side? I'd really rather support healthy back yard breeders if i could.
any help would be appreciated

thanks for reading

the pet superstore at stafford are great as far as quality is concerned with many of their fish BUT I wouldnt touch their betta's they often keep them in cups 1/2 the size of the as many other stores.

As for local breeders have you tried cat and wilson in wilston   . They are members on this forum username cat2785, check in the Breeders Register area, HTH

check out the breeders register for local breeders, but I started out going to the usual nth side LFS's like yourself and found it better to deal with good local breeders instead. Usually you can pick up on who's good and who's not (eg their enthusiasum to discuss aquaria is a good sign straight up) , and then tee up a meeting with a few breeders at the next clayfield auction (see the diary update post).
DFishkeeper (Doug) is a nice bloke to deal with and has good stuff, or fishtraderlau (Andrew) is another good breeder to deal with.

I noticed "that" place at stafford has fallen down a bit in quality and seems to have less stock of Africans in particular. However there's a new place at Keppera shopping centre (up near supercheap), that was getting their aquarium section setup 3 weeks ago. They had a few tanks lined up so might be worthwhile checking out now, to see what they stocked them with.

hope this helps you out.

hi mate,
id just be careful about naming the shops on a public forum as there have been cases before where people have been sued for this type of thing.

anyway i reccomend finding a shop that has just fish therefore the fish arent being looked after by 16y/o casual who knows nothing about them.

goodluck
