Just a quick question about the gibby, it's now about 10inches long and causes no problems in my 180 gal with the cories (and other fish). Is it likely it may be a problem as he/she grows? Become more skittish and possibly wipe out some of the cories?
If I do end up having a problem am I right to think that the sailfin probably wont get on with the golden or common plec in another tank?
I'd just like to be prepared

A pic of my sailfin.

And the golden plec in another tank ...

I have the following all in a 48 x 24 x 28.
2 Sailfin Gibbies - 25 & 20cm
1 Gold Pleco - 20cm
2 Snow King Plecos - 10cm each
11 Scats - 10-8cm
I have some root system logs in there and they all have a place to hide.
I know once they get bigger I will have to move some of them out but for now they are fine and all get along great.
I think you will not have a problem providing it has somewhere to hide and doesn't outgrow the tank.

Too busy working and breeding fish!!!!!!!

ashhhh

i have been told that when they mature, they can get aggressive to there own kind.
I have 2 gibbys in my display tank along with a common and 2 golds and a mix of different american cichlids.
So Ill just wait and see what happens as the two gibbys grow......
but each fish has its own temperment so just watch them and see what happens
Cheers.....

Untill recently I had 6 BIG breeding gibbies that spent Winter indoors, the only time there was any agro was when food was offered.   The rest of the time they just hung out in, on, or under thier logs .

PS.   Any  one know of or seen any big Gibbies show up in the last month ?????   Where they ought not have been ????

I've got a 25cm Sailfin and a 15cm Gold Spot (thanks again Phil lol) and the Sailfin rarely gets narky but when he does he chases the the Gold Spot for ages around the tank which is quite funny. Only time it happens though is when they end up on the same food source. They can eat side by side but if they choose the same thing to eat at the same time things go haywire which is rare thanks heavens as cleaning up a planted tank after 2 decent sized plecos have gone nuts is not funny. Very funny to watch as it happens but. However if any other fish tries to eat their food all they do is go into a spasming motion which wards off the other fish so no hassles with any other fish. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Bryce.

That's helped me heaps, if I ever do have a problem with the gibby I can at least try it in the other tank with the other 2 plecs.

Thanks everyone!  :D

Well,,,,they were in their tank when I fed in the morning , but not when I got home from work in the evening.
